Watching Steven Universe is such an awkward experience nowadays. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good show. Its stories can be great, its design is lovely, and since Peridot bonded with the gems it’s finally played things safe in terms of emotion rather than have characters constantly cry. But I just can’t bring myself to respect it entirely because it’s something that’s just plain everywhere at this point; just to look at a single element from it elsewhere is a nuisance. And to think - I used to have a crush on Amethyst.

I’ve talked about this plenty before, but this honestly wouldn’t such a problem if the fandom spared a thought for those who haven’t seen it, especially those outside of America. Instead, everyone’s exploiting spoilers the hour after an episode has aired, occasionally without tagging them. The world isn’t made up exclusively of the USA - not every fan will get to see these episodes at the exact same time as you do.

I really want to love this show again, charming as it is, and I feel like doing so during numerous episodes. But loving Steven Universe is now a far too normal trait for its own good, and with Tumblr it shows. I prefer to deviate from the norm. There are half a dozen cartoons ongoing that suit me more, mainly because it’s not often I have to try and dodge things I’m not yet supposed to see from those.

Shit, I keep forgetting we have only 50 states.

Jokes aside, the show's following will go at least two ways; the MLP way, with adult-children and sexual deviants being the first things that come to mind; or the Harry Potter/Star Wars/Doctor Who way, where you can actually feel relatively comfortable around fans and not worry about encountering freaks.
